Study Center Services

The "Princess Diana" Study Center for Palliaitve Medicine officially opened in October of 1996. The main goal of this Study Center is the promotion of hospice philosophy and palliative medicine by providing introductive and specialization courses in these subjects for doctors, nurses, and pharmacists from all over Romania. The Center also houses a library with resources for the study of palliative care. In April 1999, the Center launched the hospice help-line for patients and care givers seeking advice, consultation, support, and technical knowledge about palliative care.

All courses offered by the Study Center are accredited by the Romanian Minisrty of Health and the Center for Post- Graduate Study for Doctors, Nurses, and Pharmacists. The courses offered by the Study Center in 1999 are as follows:

Courses for Doctors:
1. Three Week Courses for doctors from Brasov
Topics covered: Introduction to Palliative Care, Symptom Control, Ethic Decisions in Palliative Medicine, and Communication with Patients and Thier Families.

2. Three Day Courses: Introduction to Palliative Care

3. Three Week Courses for doctors throughout Romania:
Topics covered: Symptom Control, Ethic Decisions in Palliative Care, and Communicating with Patients and Their Families.

1. One Week Courses for nurses in Brasov
Topics covered: Intorduction to Palliative Care, Communicating with Patients and Thier Families, Evaluating and Controlling Pain in Advanced Stages, Symptom Control.

2. One Week Courses for nurses from around Romania
Topics covered: Intorduction to Palliative Care, Communicating with Patients and Thier Families, Evaluating and Controlling Pain in Advanced Stages, Symptom Control.

In November of 1998, the Study Center hosted the first Romanian National Conference for Palliative Care. At this conference the National Association for Palliatve Care (ANIP) was formed. The purpose of the association is to lobby, on a national level, for the development and the extension of the hospice philosophy and palliative care.
